Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During our session, the student and I did several things. We went over practice questions for the upcoming exam. We went over warm-up exercises as well, both for reading and for math. Then we went over the answers. We reviewed which ones were wrong, to make sure the concept was cemented. We also went over testing strategies. We also went over an essay he is writing. We brainstormed and went over essay structure. Lastly, I talked to him about the benefits of pre-AP classes and the importance of sacrificing yourself for your education."
"The student spent the session working on a homework assignment about writing haikus and limericks. I helped him approach both with an eye for storytelling and elevated language. Next week we will work on Romeo and Juliet for his English class."
"The student and I met last Thursday and worked on creating reading notes for an essay on morality and selflessness. She seemed to have a difficult time with the abstract concepts of morality in the sense in which the author discussed them, but I believe that we created sufficient notes for her to move forward with her initial outline and rough draft (which we will likely work on this week). We will continue to work on her understanding in the next session."
"We worked on more reading comprehension. The student did well on the questions I gave him last week and easily corrected his mistakes. After discussing his passage orally, the questions were very simple for him. I gave him a practice passage to read for homework, and I asked his mother to discuss some questions with him during or after reading. Next week, we will do the questions for the passage. Also, he did a good job keeping on task this week."
"The student had a very focused session! He worked diligently to complete all of his tasks, including letter identification and letter sound flashcards, subject/ verb agreement (an area of strength for him), and sight word/ letter recognition."
"The student and I thoroughly fixed up the story outline he had written, focusing on organization, spelling, and grammar. Then we worked on starting a first draft using the outline. We went over how a first draft maintains the structure of the outline, but includes much more detail. For next week's session, he will finish the first draft."
