Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student did well in this session as we mostly went through his Spanish essay about his love for traveling all over the world. I gave him some grammar and spelling tips when writing and he was able to apply them on his own essay tonight. His writing strength and ability is growing rapidly."
"The first thing we did was go over the vocabulary words and notes I wrote for the student. He is having a little trouble remembering what words mean but I can tell he's trying, which is all I want to start off. Afterwards, he did his homework while writing down translations for words he didn't understand. We then went over vocabulary that involved businesses in a town."
"In this session we covered the student's essay that his teacher allowed him to rewrite for credit. We focused specifically on the two paragraphs that required him to use the near future tense and present progressive for which he did not originally understand the directions. We also edited the other two paragraphs for grammatical errors and comprehension. We also reviewed the new material he had learned in class on Wednesday. This focused on reflexive verbs, reflexive pronouns, and using them in sentences with direct object pronouns. We briefly reviewed his homework regarding this verb tense to check to make sure he understood the directions and how to answer the questions. I requested that he talk to his teacher and ask how they were to be tested on this material. The student said that he would get copies of past tests from his teacher so that I could see what material would likely be on his final. That way I could start planning a finals study schedule with him."
"We started by discussing the student's recent test. It was an improvement from last time. We covered so much material the night before the test, which isn't the best way to go, so he struggled. This session was spent really learning the vocabulary for this chapter. The vocab is all about shopping, clothing, and spending money. He had a great attitude and great effort during our session, and he nearly mastered an entire chapter's worth of vocab words in one session! I challenged him to study the words three separate times on his own to solidify this learning. Next week we will likely focus on new grammar concepts, as past tense preterite is coming up soon! With more consistency in our tutoring sessions I'm sure his scores will start to improve again. Good work!"
"We reviewed conjugation of verbs and worked on new vocabulary and found ways of remembering those words. We also reviewed math concepts involving polynomials. We associated graphs to equations without the use of a calculator, by looking at clues like the degree of the polynomial and the value, positive or negative, of a."
"Today, the student and I had a productive session. We created note cards for 10 new verbs that she learned this week. We went over their preterit conjugations. We then continued to review preterit -ar and -er/-ir verbs in general. Then we created note cards for the vocabulary test she has this coming Friday. We scheduled an extra session for Thursday. Furthermore, she did some worksheets she was assigned to help her gain a better understanding of her vocabulary words, which are centered around purchasing items and trying on clothing. Her memory is improving, thanks to the exercises we have been doing. She is more focused during sessions and more confident in her abilities."
