Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We discussed macroeconomics and the principles of wages, GDP and Aggregate Demand trends. I am trying to ensure that she understands the basic concepts enough so she can apply them in the future by using lifelike examples. She seems to have a better understanding now."
"Today, we worked on naming inorganic compounds. We worked both on writing the correct formula when given the name and on stating the name if given the formula. The student seemed to have a solid understanding of the process to go through in order to determine the compound's name."
"We worked on the reading section and English section. He's pretty good on the math section and it is probably his strongest section now. We have also begun looking at the writing section."
"This was the last of the sessions meant to prepare the student for his science final. We covered most of the rest of the problems, focusing on developing a set process for going through specific problems, that included ionic naming and stoichiometry. We also briefly went over the ideas behind molarity. Before I left, I assigned him a few online problems in stoichiometry, in order for him to work on and become more familiar with that set of problems."
"The student and I met and covered the tests he had previously taken. I asked him to try a reading exercise where he focused on underlining main ideas and then underlining the main ideas of the questions. Then I had him answer the questions as best he could. We will review this on Wednesday."
"We discussed various topics for research, which would be interesting but also have an abundance of peer reviewed articles already written about it. The first choice deals with a very timely issue with respect to the ACA (Obama care act) and the likelihood that our lower socioeconomic populous will or will not alter their use of emergency rooms."
"The student and I met for the first time today. We discussed general studying strategies to prepare for the standardized test. She identified areas to focus on for the test, that she would like to review. We reviewed the basics of most of the biology questions that she had. She will be working on practice questions, regarding the subsections of biology that we reviewed today, from her book for next time."
"We went over the organic chemistry and physics section of the MCAT. I went over topics such as combustion, halogenation, and substitution reactions. Then she took some practice questions. Afterwards, I went over basic concepts like weights, mass, and inclined planes."
"This session was used to plan the student's study and preparation schedule for the next three weeks. We took inventory of the study materials that she has at her disposal and what areas she needs to improve in. We established a schedule that should take full advantage of her time and study material."
"Discussed MCAT goals. Applied post-test review strategy. Covered glomerular filtration, reabsorption, and secretion as well as general nephron anatomy. Looked at aldol condensation reactions and covered techniques for organic chemistry on the MCAT. Went over a particularly confusing physics passage on X-Ray techniques and strategies for cutting through to the important information."
"Today we shored up some organic chemistry, but we spent most of the time on electrostatics and circuits. We reviewed force of electric attraction and electric potential."
"Today's session focused on helping the student study for his upcoming midterm in Social Studies. We worked on his review sheet defining the terms listed using his textbook, notes and the internet. He also prepared a flash card for each definition and then I quizzed him on them from time to time. The topics focused on historical figures like, historical facts as well as geographical terms like "valleys", "basins" and "bays"."
