Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student was working on problems with torque and static equilibrium, and doing some really involved problems with both. Once we got into the swing of determining how to choose rotation axes and assign signs to torques, she seemed to work with the math very well and see the geometrical relationships very easily. I think that, with some practice on other problems, she will be well prepared for what the test throws at her."
"Today went well! We went over the different types of proteins that make up the cytoskeleton and their associated motor proteins. As we continue with these lectures, it's been kind of cool to watch everything connect together between the lectures. The student did a great job today at looking at the big picture and connecting different lectures together."
"Today we reviewed the student's Chapter 17 homework and we will start electrochemistry next week. He seems to have a strong grasp on free energy but word problems seem a bit more difficult (real world application). We will review those skills next session."
"The student and I continued coverage of electric fields, forces and velocity of charges. He expressed some discomfort with the right hand rule so we focused on that and it seems like he has a much better handle on the concept now. Overall, great session."
"We finished the chapter on aldol addition and aldol condensation reactions. We worked through identification of the products of a mixed aldol reaction. We covered the chapter on Claisen and Dieckmann condensations. We also worked through aspects of the malonic ester and acetoacetic ester synthesis reactions."
"We reviewed mass spec and went over all of IR spec. The student was just getting a feel for it and had some trouble, but picked up the material quickly. He has a great attitude towards the material and he has a slide to look over. We will discuss NMR on Monday in preparation for his test."
