"We read through chapter 2 together and then commented on various ethical models in philosophy and business."
"We spent this lesson discussing his thesis for The Crucible. His English teacher has laid out very specific criteria: she wants a concise thesis statement(one to two sentences), the thesis statement must include key words like "motivation"ù, and the topic sentence of each body paragraph must include a synonym of a thesis keyword. We discussed the three characters that he plans to write about in his paper. He plans to discuss the selfish motives of Abagail Williams, Reverend Parris, and Deputy Danforth. We discussed the motives of Abagail Williams, in particular, and found scenes and dialogue in the play that he can reference in his paper to reinforce his thesis. We also closely examined handouts from the English teacher that illustrated exemplary topic sentences and thesis statements. We worked together to write out "rough ideas"ù for his paragraph about Abagail Williams. I asked him to email his drafts as he finishes them, with the promise that I would provide feedback. He also offered to share a handout from his English teacher-the handout mentioned above. He is going to work on drafting and, specifically, citing quotes and scenes from the text to add meat to his writing. He's had a shortened schedule this week, so he did not have the ordinary math quiz. He has chapter reading assignments for history that he described as "pretty straightforward,"ù and he declined any assistance in keeping the assignment on schedule and organized. His physics class is talking about inertia. I will text and email him throughout the week to monitor his progress on his thesis paper."
"We continued to compile a list of words that give the student trouble. We worked out loud on pronunciation as well as used some internet resources for interactive exercises. I went over the lip movements required for some of her problem syllables, specifically the difference between "v" and "w" sounds and helped with "th" syllables several situations in which they are used."
