Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This session began by working through the documentation and showing the student how it could be used. (He requested that we work through some animations code.) Some technical problems caused slight holds, though we looked at some example code and did some small programs. I helped him to understand how to deal with such environment issues in general, though he will need to go through such problematic experiences himself really to grasp the skills needed for dealing with these. We then worked through his pre-calculus text, basically a rather reiterative chapter on graph interpretation and function properties. However, I thought it best to give him work from this chapter to ensure his steady progress through the text."
"I administered a quiz to the students that basically took up the whole two hours. I gave them each 10 programming review problems that had different amounts of run-time tries for completion. Once they passed the number of tries for full credit, they lost 1/4 point for each successive try. The quiz was a review on loops, conditionals, while loops, debugging, and basic coding logic."
"We continued work on the student's program. We had to rethink our strategy, and settled on a recursive-esque approach (really more like Dynamic Programming). We worked on the "queueUp" function, which is the heart of the program, and got it basically functional, though it needs more work to accommodate edge cases and multiple queues. We'll be meeting again tomorrow night after she has done some work on her own."
