Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Tonight we finished the homework program. I demonstrated how to tie information together through calculations, which allowed us to alter the width and positioning of the fence pickets by only changing one value at the beginning of the program. We then moved to Chapter 4, and discussed local variables, and scope. Next week we will talk about passing parameters, and begin chapter 5."
"We began by going over the student's assignment. We then worked on 2D arrays and parallel arrays. I assigned him a program using these and student data. Next time, this will be reprogrammed using classes."
"We reviewed his Program 6 assignment. He is really starting to understand object creation via constructors and object scope and data encapsulation."
"We reviewed the additional requirements the student's teacher added to the program and corrected output styles. The student seems to be getting quicker at solving his mistakes."
"The student had a computer science exam on Monday so we reviewed her notes about classes and methods. We looked over every problem that she had difficulty understanding, and we worked on them until she felt she had a good understanding of the problem. At the end of the session, we reviewed all of the vocabulary that she needed to know for the exam."
"We worked through the following on MS Excel: how to filter results and highlight them, how to sort in a list the entire set of data, how to resize and change pane width/ length, how to highlight duplicate data, how to make data appear as a table to color alternating lines, and a few other things."
