Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over some basics of hypothesis testing and p-values, with a specific focus on nonparametric and parametric tests; we also reviewed some homework problems."
"We went over a review page covering distance, displacement, speed, velocity, and acceleration. The student seems much more comfortable with the material than she did last week. We also tackled Newton's laws, inertia, and the connection between unbalanced force and acceleration."
"We discussed angular momentum, moment of inertia, and torque. The student had initial difficulty applying the relevant mathematical formulas (cross-product determinants) and being able to do manipulations. After a few examples, he got the hang of the formulas and understood how formulas connected in order to properly manipulate them."
"The student and I worked on calculating the heat of a reaction, using both the heat needed to change the temperature of a substance (q=cm(delta)T) and the heat needed to undergo a phase change (q=m(delta)H). Since deltaH and specific heat (c) are given with different units, we spoke about being careful to convert the units before summing the heats. We also went over reaction energy graphs."
"We covered operations on functions. I showed the student a way of multiplying and distributing things with two terms. I also showed him how applying functions into other functions works."
"We began by going over Punnett squares in depth, doing them by hand and then using probabilities. We worked our way up to doing crosses with four traits using the multiplication and addition rules for probability. I then had the student give me her presentation on Klinefelter Syndrome. After a couple of times, she found a flow to it. I told her to do it a few more times tomorrow, preferably standing and with an audience."
