Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we worked on using the FOIL method to expand factored polynomials and to express them in their standard form. With basic expansions, the student was able to complete these easily on his own. He initially struggled with problems involving polynomial of the 3rd order. After we walked through one problem he was able to complete the others with only a little guidance. The second part of his homework involved factoring the polynomial that was expressed in standard form. He is usually able to find the factors with very little help."
"We went through his homework on graphing linear equations and finding the equations of lines given points and a slope. He did very well after a bit of practice, and we talked about how to approach these problems."
"We reviewed a whopping amount of old homework for the student. She completed over 70 problems including over 20 graphical-solution problems with 5 in-depth word problems involving 3 or more systems of inequalities. We also spent time reviewing for her Chapter 8 test tomorrow. That covered the degree of polynomials; adding and subtracting polynomials; multiplying binomials using a table, FOIL, and vertical multiplication; factoring trinomials using the bottoms-up method; and factoring four-term polynomials by grouping."
"We went through her test correction. We correct 3-4 questions that she missed on her test. Then we went through her exam review which was about exponential and log functions. We worked on graphs and their properties. She understood how she has to solve them. She is doing great."
"Student 1: At this session, we reviewed a package her teacher covered in class. She mentioned, her teacher worked through the problem however, she was still unclear on some of it. So, we reviewed the slope-intersect and solving inequalities. Student 2: At this session we worked on his homework; solving inequalities with radicals. He needed the most help with part of this assignment, specifically how to eliminate a radical when solving for a variable. I would recommend one-on-one session that focus solely on fundamental concepts."
"In this session, we went through a math assignment. We went through it to cover the new and challenging concepts that were in the assignment. We covered surface area and volumes of somewhat more complex 3D figures. I left her a sheet of formulas, concepts, and tips. We focused more on the analytical side, rather than the number side, of the problems. It seems like she is having visualizing the 3D problems, so I left her pictures of 3D shapes with color coded surfaces along with formulae, so she can better visualize where the formula comes from."
