Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went through ACT Reading and Science practice problems. We also implemented some new strategies that she can use on test day. She is doing a great job and has the links to practice additional passages on her own."
"We walked through a final assignment requiring three HTML pages, links, nested lists, tables, and CSS styling. Just rearrange HTML elements and add in specific content and you should be good to submit!"
"The student is relatively new to web design and is working on increasing her familiarity with both HTML and CSS. We worked through a number of technical issues in HTML and CSS that she was facing in her web design project: div IDs and classes, alignment and placement of elements on a page, integrating an image carousel on one page, customizing format and style. She was able to successfully troubleshoot and implement a number of the changes, and made good progress on the site. We looked at online resources that will help her in further troubleshooting. Using these as primary sources in coding was encouraged. Learning to find the right resources is a critical part of success in coding. She will continue to build out the website and attempt to do some troubleshooting on her own, and we will reconvene as needed."
"Today we worked on the student's most recent assignment where a program asks a user if they would like to calculate the area of a circle or the volume of a sphere. The program then asks the user for the radius of the circle/sphere and then prints out the appropriate area/volume. We specifically wrote out the pseudocode for this program today so that we have a clear idea of how the program will be structured and what variables we'll need. Next week we'll code it out in Java."
"This session was devoted to finishing up the Huffman tree code assignment with the student. I mostly gave advice on testing and exception handling as well as some small changes to the overall structure of the code (to meet specifications set by his professor)."
"We drove through a TON of Python code. The student has done amazing work in her class. The credit really goes to her for maintaining such a positive attitude and drive through her class. I am sad that we don't have any more sessions for her class."
