"The student and I reviewed some new homework problems she has been assigned since her midterm last week. I was extremely happy to hear that she received an A on her midterm, and I can see that she is getting more confident in her programming skills. Huge congratulations are due to her for all her hard work, and I look forward to our continued work together to keep her grades up!"
"Today we talked about the student's new project Hangman. I walked him through at the beginning but realized I was handholding a bit too much so I started to ask him questions about what he thinks he needs to do. We got through a little bit and at the end I laid out the plan for what he should be thinking about as he continues to work on the project."
"We made a calendar to track the student's AP CS assignment due dates, and exam dates. This will help us pace our lessons, and help him prioritize his time. He is starting arrays in class. We practiced some for-loops with arrays. He will fill in his calendar as he gets more information from his Instructor about due dates and exam dates. He will also share his notes from class with me so that we can cover any areas that aren't clear next lesson."
"The student and I worked through a couple of AP practice problems and a multiple choice problem. He did an excellent job reasoning through these problems and had the right approach every time before he started writing any code. He sometimes needed assistance with his syntax which would get in the way of communicating his ideas clearly, and I expect that after he becomes more comfortable writing code in general (something that just takes time) he will stop making these kinds of errors. He did an excellent job this evening, and he was able to complete all of his work with time left to spare."
"The student worked to write his final project for his class. We came close to finishing it, and we will wrap it up with the next session tomorrow night, and review the test material for the final."
"We covered many of the advanced topics in MS Word, such as viewing multiple documents and different ways of doing a markup review. We started with an introduction to MS Excel and will be working on getting a basic understanding of functions. Backing up his system remains a concern. A small physical hard drive might be the best option in the long run. He has made a great deal of progress and can navigate the system fairly well. One of our challenges will be to determine what other competencies will be useful."
