Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We spent most of the session going over a practice test the student had done for homework, then worked more on word problems and geometry."
"The student has a test in his Math class this week so we went over the hardest problems in his work book on this chapter. It was using ratios and changes in them to find unknowns. We followed his book's method and I showed him a more general algebraic method that I thought would help with the questions."
"The student did a fantastic job this week, improving leaps and bounds from where he was last week. He demonstrated remarkable mental math abilities and had a firm understanding of percentages, and probabilities. The major accomplishment with him in his session was the idea of solving an equation for an unknown. He was comfortable with the idea of cross multiplying, but the idea of addition or subtraction from both sides of the equation shook him at first. A brief amount of time later, he understood this and was able to recall his teacher's rule: "Whatever you do to one side, you have to do to the other side." We also expanded on his knowledge of probability, but adding two events in succession. He now knows that if one thing happens and then something else happens, you need to multiply the probability of the first thing by the second thing to get the overall probability. We finished the session by learning about exponents and square roots. He was able to understand how to square a number, how to take the square root of a number, and how to cube a number. This session was extremely productive. 4/5 stars. I'm still very proud of his accomplishments in a couple of short sessions."
