Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on reviewing for the student's test on Friday. We mostly focused on graphing sin/cos waves. Solid work!"
"We went over his tests/quizzes at school, mainly over sine/cosine functions and proofs. He seems to have trouble recalling things that I've already proved to him, but once he sees the proofs again it all comes back to him."
"We reviewed basic arithmetic (adding and subtracting fractions) and algebra (domain and range, functions, difference of squares, etc.), Pythagorean theorem, special right triangles, the unit circle, and the 6 fundamental trigonometric functions. We then focused on proving trigonometric identities; we discussed several techniques such as making substitutions, simplifying or using algebra to change into a different form, and writing down the left-hand side of the equation and working your way to the right-hand side. The student is generally proficient in algebra and should be able to pass his class as long as he works many problems daily and continues to review the unit circle and basic trigonometric relationships. He paid attention, worked hard, and was polite."
"Today the student had a review for his final exam. We spent time going over the questions he did not understand and made sure he understood the process of how to solve those type of problems. We finished up the review sheet with no problems. Good productive session."
"This was my first session with the student. She has a test on Wednesday! Fortunately, she had a really good review sheet that we went over almost comprehensively. A few topics she got really easily, so I left extraneous problems with that stuff for her to do on her own later. She said she was mostly having trouble with conic sections, but after we went over some basic formulas and tricks, she was doing just fine! Her main weakness was actually just algebra/arithmetic. There are a lot of rules to remember/understand/use, and she wasn't quite proficient with them. So I showed her rules relating to longs, exponents, powers, and roots, and all the different things you can/can't do with them. With that stuff solid, I think she'll do really well on her test! I definitely think she can get an A."
"Today was fractions day, and we reviewed everything related to fractions that the student did this semester. She was surprisingly focused and enthusiastic today, and did really well. She even showed interest in learning about negative numbers, and adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators."
