Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked today on some aspects of his most recent assignment (banking simulation). We reworked some code used for creating and updating a mock savings account. He had some small issues with his overall object design logic, so we reworked that, making the code flow a bit better. This greatly simplified matters for him. He seems much better positioned to move forward and complete the assignment."
"This week, the student and I concentrated on getting her up to speed on basics of computer programming in Java. She transferred late into her current class, and needed to make sure she had the fundamentals down. As this was our first session together, I simply had her ask me the questions she had, and I answered them and provided examples. Next week, she will (hopefully) have Java up and running on her computer, and will have access to more assignments and work that we can work through together. In addition, I gave her some links to sites that will give her a way to stretch her programming muscles."
"Today was the usual run through with the students: going over their project, checking up on their progress, and then continuing their lessons on the website. Their current lessons are a lot more advanced and I'm beginning to see them struggle more and ask more questions, especially the first student. We spent a good hour or so working through conditionals and functions with the older two students, while the first student worked mainly with nested loops and conditional loops. At the end of the class, they were given time to refine their codes for their game project as well as start working on their report for the project. This report is due to me this Thursday."
