Tutoring review by Carol in Aberdeen, WA
We began the session by doing multiplication practice. The student then completed 50 multiplication practice questions for the number 3. We then practiced multiplying two-digit numbers by three-digit numbers, and we did similar work with division. Next we worked on finding factors for numbers. Using that knowledge, we began adding fractions with like denominators. Some of the problems required converting the answers to mixed numbers. We practiced simplifying fractions by finding the greatest common factor. He completed 20 problems. The we reviewed proportions and ratios. We also reviewed the concepts of the greatest common factor and least common multiple. We made flash cards for 3s for multiplication. The student wants to learn and is very cooperative.

Tutoring review by Lindsay in Aberdeen, WA
In this session we started by focusing in on dimensional analysis which was presented in a packet of problems from the student's chemistry teacher. These problems centered on the changing of units between different forms of measurements. We talked about how she can use dimensional analysis in order to be confident in her answer and check her work by making sure that her conversions are all set up properly. She did a great job learning the new concept and showed mastery of the concept as she worked through other practice problems. She should continue working on this concept with the rest of that packet. We then moved on to work on some more factoring with the math packet. This factoring involved finding common factors in fractions in order to simplify the fractions.

The first session with this student went well! We went over her previous quizzes and corrected the questions she missed. We also worked on reviewing for her weekly quiz. She is working on compound interest. We also went ahead and looked over new material, but it was mostly application of compound interest. I asked her to bring her calculator to the next session.

We used practice problems on a test prep website to help the student practice for her Algebra test on Functions, Slopes, and Intercepts. She has a very strong mastery of the material, and I think she will do well on the test. We also studied for World Geography by creating a timeline of major events in the Cold War and the Korean War. She said that making timelines and graphic organizers was very effective at helping her study the Vietnam War, so she wanted to study this way again. If this method works, we will continue to study using graphic organizers, and during our next session, I will see if she wants to try using them in her other classes as well.
